Okpebholo Sets Two-Month Deadline for Completion of Ezotti Doctors’ Quarters

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced that the renovation of the long-abandoned Doctors’ Quarters on Ezotti Street, Benin City, will be completed and ready for occupation within the next two months. The facility has remained in disuse for over four decades.
The governor disclosed this on Monday, June 1, 2026, during an inspection visit to the project site. He was accompanied by the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, and other top government officials. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, conducted the delegation around the facility.
Okpebholo said he undertook the personal inspection after receiving several reports about the condition of the building. He explained that bringing the Speaker along would allow the legislature to assess how funds appropriated for the project were being applied.
According to the governor, the contractor handling the renovation assured him that work would be completed in about one month and two weeks. He stated that doctors would move into the quarters immediately once the project is delivered.
“I will return to inspect the project again, and I hope the contractor meets the deadline so that our doctors can begin to occupy the facility,” Okpebholo told journalists after the tour.
The Commissioner for Health praised the governor for reviving a project that had been neglected for more than 40 years. Dr. Oshiomhole said previous administrations failed to address the deteriorating structure, while the current administration commenced rehabilitation within its first year.
“This is the first time any government has undertaken major work on this building in the last four decades,” Oshiomhole said. He noted that the facility was in a dilapidated state before construction began and that the renovation is now over 85 per cent completed.
The commissioner commended Governor Okpebholo for prioritizing healthcare under the SHINE Agenda. He expressed hope that the completed quarters would improve accommodation for medical personnel and strengthen healthcare delivery across Edo State.
