Okpebholo Nominates Washington Osifo as Commissioner-Designate in Edo

Benin City, June 5, 2026* – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of Hon. Dr. Washington Osifo as Commissioner-Designate, the state government announced Thursday. The appointment was contained in a special government announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, Dr. Osifo’s nomination is subject to confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly in line with constitutional provisions. The governor said the nomination reflects his administration’s commitment to assembling a cabinet of competent and experienced technocrats to drive governance in the state.
Dr. Washington Osifo is described as an accomplished administrator, legal practitioner and politician with a strong record of public service. He holds advanced degrees in Law, Political Science and Public Administration, and has previously served in various capacities within Edo State government at different times.
The government noted that his academic background spans comparative politics, development studies and governance, giving him a broad perspective on policy formulation and implementation. Officials said this blend of scholarship and practical experience positions him to contribute meaningfully to the Okpebholo administration’s agenda.
The statement highlighted Dr. Osifo’s reputation for community development, transparent governance and political leadership in Edo. Over the years, he has been recognized for grassroots engagement and advocacy for accountable public service, qualities the government said are critical at this stage of the state’s development.
With the nomination now forwarded to the House of Assembly, Dr. Osifo will undergo legislative screening and confirmation before he can assume office. The process is expected to begin in the coming legislative session as lawmakers resume plenary.
