Okpebholo Commends Igueben College Provost for Rapid Revival of Institution

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commended the Provost of Edo State College of Education, Igueben, Dr Victoria Okojie, for what he described as a remarkable turnaround of the institution within five months of her appointment.

The governor gave the commendation on Wednesday while receiving the school management on a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin City. The visit was announced in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, on June 3, 2026.

Okpebholo said the college was almost written off before Okojie’s appointment but has witnessed significant progress under her leadership. “First of all let me thank you for your efforts in growing the school from within your five months of appointment,” he told the delegation.

“At a time I think that school was completely a write-off, but with your efforts, a lot of things have been achieved within the shortest time possible,” the governor added. He noted that her track record and professionalism gave the administration confidence in her ability to deliver.

According to him, the government was aware of the provost’s capability before her appointment and had no doubt she would succeed. He also responded to requests presented by the college management, saying some were achievable and expressing interest in visiting the campus for an on-the-spot assessment.

Earlier, Dr Okojie thanked the governor for increasing the college’s monthly subvention from N19 million to N100 million. She said the boost had enabled management to focus on strengthening internal quality assurance systems and improving staff and student welfare since she assumed office.

The provost, however, appealed for more support in key areas. She requested students’ shuttle buses to ease movement for lectures and other activities, and highlighted needs in campus security, additional student accommodation, staff quarters, and improvement of internal road networks.

Governor Okpebholo said he would review the requests and look at how the state government could intervene further. He assured the college management of his administration’s commitment to revamping tertiary institutions and restoring confidence in Edo’s education sector.
