Tinubu Names 39-Year-Old Prof. Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the State House.
Aina will succeed Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026. The transition marks a change in leadership at the agency responsible for conducting university and tertiary admissions examinations in Nigeria.
At 39, Aina will become JAMB’s youngest registrar. He will turn 40 in July. He is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and is recognized for his work in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also earned an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
His career with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, where he gained early experience in admissions processes and data-driven institutional operations. Since then, he has spent over 15 years working at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on system design and digital transition.
Aina has served as a consultant to major examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several State Ministries of Education. His work has focused on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimization.
He is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). President Tinubu said he expects Aina to apply his experience to take JAMB beyond the achievements recorded under his predecessor.
