Edo Govt Publishes Infrastructure Progress Report, Highlights Roads, Markets and Flood Control
Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration has released a progress report on infrastructure delivery in Edo State. The report covers road construction, market redevelopment, equipment distribution to local governments, federal road repairs, and flood control projects across the state.
The document shows that over 500 kilometers of road projects are currently ongoing across Edo’s three senatorial districts. In addition, 28 new contracts have been awarded for another 285 kilometers of roads, expanding the scope of the administration’s road interventions.
In Benin City, two flyovers are under construction at Ramat Park and Sapele Road/Adesuwa Junction to address urban traffic congestion. The Ramat Park flyover is reported to be nearing 90% completion, while work continues on both structures to improve traffic flow in the capital.
Market redevelopment also features in the report. Projects listed include the reconstruction of Oba Market, the rebuilt POWA Market in Ihinmwinrin, the Ujabholele Uessan Modern Market, and more than 700 shops at the Irrua Ultra-Modern Market. The state has also distributed 54 units of construction equipment to Local Government Areas for rural road and drainage maintenance.
Further interventions include state-funded repairs on sections of the Benin-Auchi federal road to ease transportation for commuters. The government said stormwater and drainage projects are ongoing in flood-prone areas such as Upper Sakponba and Uwelu to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding.
The administration noted that Governor Okpebholo has been in office for under two years and described the projects as ongoing initiatives rather than completed works. It said the scope and pace of implementation reflect the governor’s commitment to practical governance and infrastructural renewal.
According to the Edo New Media & Visual Communications Office, the projects point to a deliberate effort to reshape the physical and economic landscape of Edo State through targeted capital investments. The report said the focus remains on improving connectivity, strengthening commerce, and building urban resilience under the SHINE agenda.
