APC Submits House of Reps Candidates for Edo After Direct Primaries, Faces Internal Disputes

The All Progressives Congress has concluded its first set of primary elections to fill seats for the Federal House of Representatives in Edo State. The party said the exercise was conducted successfully and has submitted the names of its authentic candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the list released by the party, nine candidates will fly the APC flag in the upcoming elections. The constituencies and candidates cover all federal constituencies in the state.
For Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, Hon. Odianosen Okojie was nominated. Hon. Anamero Sunday Dekeri emerged for Etsako Federal Constituency, while Dr. Paddy Iyamu was selected for Oredo Federal Constituency.
Dr. Lucky Eseigbe will represent Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, and Hon. Omosede Igbinedion was picked for Ovia Federal Constituency. Hon. Andrew Ijegbai secured the ticket for Owan Federal Constituency.
The party also nominated Hon. Felix Osazee Igbinovia for Ikpoba-Okha/Egor Federal Constituency and Hon. Billy Osawaru for Uhunmwonde/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency. Barr. Bankole Balogun was chosen for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.
The primaries were conducted using the direct mode, where registered party members voted to select candidates. The APC said the method was adopted to ensure wider participation and transparency in the selection process.
However, the exercise has drawn complaints from some aspirants. Hon. Esosa Iyawe, the current member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, alleged that his supporters were disenfranchised during the voting process.
With some aspirants indicating plans to challenge the outcome, questions are being raised over whether the nominated candidates will withstand possible legal battles. It remains to be seen if the disputes will head to court and how they could affect the party’s preparations for the general elections.
