dst Allegations of Gross Misconduct
Uromi & Uzea, Edo State – In a dramatic turn of events, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area, Dr. Kelly Ehidiamen Inedegbor and Hon. Thomas Otiobhili, have been impeached. A decisive vote by eight out of eleven councilors saw the suspended officials removed from office following allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and failure to uphold their oath of office.
Sources within the council confirm the impeachment was unanimous and followed growing dissatisfaction among council members and the wider community. The legislative arm accused the duo of prioritizing personal gain, eroding public trust, and undermining the integrity of local government institutions.
The fallout extends beyond the Chairman and Vice Chairman. Three additional councilors – Hon. Sunday Ebosele (Ward 3), Hon. Smart Eboigbe (Ward 5), and Hon. Kingsley Osehon (Ward 10) – have been suspended by the leader of the house for undisclosed reasons.
The move has been met with widespread approval from residents of Esan North East, many of whom view the impeachment as a crucial step towards restoring accountability and ethical leadership. A council insider described the action as “necessary to uphold the standards of governance expected by the people,” emphasizing the legislative arm's commitment to community interests over political maneuvering.
This development underscores the increasing demand for transparency and responsibility in public office. Residents of Esan North East express hope that this marks the beginning of a new era of integrity in local governance.
