Edo Governor Mourns Fallen Firefighter, Pledges Support to Family.
Benin City, Edo State – January 14, 2025– Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of firefighter Andrew Omotor, who died in the line of duty. The Governor, represented by the Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and pledge support.
The delegation, which included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Safety and Security, Queeneth Orobedo; Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hon. Jerry Idahosa; and the Director of Edo State Fire Service, Mr. Omoluru Osayande, conveyed the Governor’s heartfelt sympathies to Omotor’s wife, six children, and elderly mother.
Dr. Okungbowa described Omotor, 45, as a courageous and dedicated firefighter who tragically lost his life responding to a distress call. He noted that another firefighter was injured and is currently receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
“Mr. Omotor was a brave and diligent firefighter who gave his all for his duty,” Dr. Okungbowa stated. “This is a painful occurrence, but the governor is deeply moved by this loss and will personally visit the family to offer his support and condolences. This visit is to assess the situation and provide initial comfort on behalf of the state government.”
The Head of Service assured the family of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to providing necessary support to ease their burden during this difficult time. He highlighted the Governor’s compassion and determination to take appropriate action to assist the family.
