APC Condemns Shooting Incident at Edo Governorship Election Tribunal

Benin City, Edo State – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has strongly condemned a shooting incident at the Governorship Election Tribunal in Benin City. The party alleges that supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were responsible for the violence.

In a statement released Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Edo State APC Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe described the incident as "a deeply disturbing and unacceptable act of violence." He emphasized that the tribunal is a place dedicated to the impartial administration of justice, and any act of violence within its premises undermines the legal system and jeopardizes the safety of everyone present.

"Regardless of political affiliation, resorting to violence to resolve disputes is never justifiable," Tenebe stated. "We must all condemn such actions in the strongest possible terms. Violence has no place in a civilized society, and those responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice swiftly and without exception."

The APC's statement did not provide details about injuries or arrests resulting from the shooting. However, the condemnation highlights the serious concern over the incident's implications for the integrity of the electoral process and the rule of law. The statement calls for a swift investigation and prosecution of those responsible. The PDP is yet to respond to the allegations.
