Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso Named Kano NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate

The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has announced Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as its deputy governorship candidate for Kano State. The announcement was made public today Monday 15th June 2026, setting the stage for the party’s campaign in the forthcoming election.

Mustapha Kwankwaso is the eldest son of the NDC’s vice presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. His selection brings the Kwankwaso family name to the frontline of Kano’s political contest, reinforcing the party’s presence in the state.

Party officials said Mustapha’s nomination was based on his background, grassroots engagement, and commitment to the NDC’s agenda for Kano. They expressed confidence that his experience and connection with younger voters would strengthen the party’s ticket.

The development is expected to reshape political calculations in Kano, where family influence and political lineage often play a significant role. Analysts note that the Kwankwaso name carries strong recognition in the state, having shaped Kano politics for decades.

With the deputy governorship slot now filled, the NDC is expected to unveil its full campaign structure in the coming days. Party leaders have called on members and supporters to rally behind the ticket as preparations intensify.

The announcement adds another layer to the 2027 election build-up in Kano, as major parties continue to position their candidates ahead of INEC’s timetable. All eyes will now be on how the NDC ticket resonates with voters across the 44 local government areas.
