Governor Okpebholo Condemns Airport Road Market Kidnapping, Orders Immediate Security Action

The Edo State Government has condemned the recent kidnapping incident at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, describing it as a serious threat to public safety and an unacceptable act of violence against innocent citizens.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, in an official statement released on Sunday, expressed strong displeasure over the incident, stressing that such criminal activities would not be tolerated under his administration. He described the attack as a direct affront to the peace and security of Edo State.

In response to the development, the governor has directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter. He emphasized the need for swift and coordinated security operations aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

Governor Okpebholo further assured residents that the state government is committed to ensuring their safety, adding that security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent a recurrence of such incidents across the state.

The governor warned that any individual or group found responsible for acts that threaten public peace would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law. He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality.

He also called on residents of Benin City and other parts of Edo State to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.

According to the governor, timely and accurate information from members of the public remains crucial in aiding security agencies to effectively combat crime and maintain order in the state.
