Edo Queens Crowned 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership Champions After Super 6 Finale

Edo Queens FC have been crowned champions of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership following the conclusion of Matchday 5 of the NWFL Super 6 playoff in Ikenne. The Benin City side, popularly called the “ Edo Queens,” finished top of the six-team championship round to lift the league title.
The decisive final day of action on Matchday 5 produced tense but goalless draws in two of the three fixtures. Edo Queens were held 0-0 by Bayelsa Queens in a tight encounter that tested both sides’ defensive discipline. The result, however, was enough to secure the championship for the Edo-based team.
In the second match, Nasarawa Amazons also played out a 0-0 draw against Rivers Angels. Both teams created chances but failed to break the deadlock, leaving their title hopes hanging until the final whistle. The stalemate ultimately worked in favor of Edo Queens.
Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens rounded out the day’s fixtures with a 1-1 draw. The shared points ensured both teams ended the Super 6 on mid-table positions, while also confirming that Edo Queens could not be caught at the top of the standings.
With the results from Matchday 5, Edo Queens finished the Super 6 campaign with 10 points from 5 matches.
Bayelsa Queens finished second on 8 points with a +2 goal difference after their draw against the new champions. The Prosperity Girls put up a strong fight throughout the playoffs but fell just short of reclaiming the title they won in previous seasons.
Nasarawa Amazons also ended on 8 points but had to settle for third place due to a neutral goal difference of 0. The Solid Babes remained unbeaten in several matches but too many draws cost them a higher finish in Ikenne.
Abia Angels placed fourth with 6 points and a -1 goal difference, while FC Robo Queens finished fifth on 4 points with -2. Rivers Angels ended bottom of the six-team table with 3 points and a -4 goal difference after struggling to find form during the championship round.
Beyond the domestic crown, Edo Queens’ triumph comes with continental responsibility. The Edo Queens will now represent Nigeria at this year’s WAFU B Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League. A strong showing there will earn them a place at Africa’s elite club competition.
The NWFL board and fans across the country have congratulated Edo Queens on their achievement. With their blend of experience and young talent, the champions will now shift focus to preparing for the WAFU B qualifiers as they aim to fly the Nigerian flag high on the continental stage.
