Gunmen Kill AAU Graduate Jusewayne in Ekpoma Hours to Child’s Dedication

Tragedy struck Ekpoma, Edo State, late Friday night when suspected gunmen killed a local businessman popularly known as Jusewayne, owner of Principle Takeout in Idumebo, during an alleged kidnapping attempt.

The victim, an Ambrose Alli University (AAU) graduate, was reportedly attacked by unknown assailants who attempted to abduct him. According to preliminary reports, the abduction attempt failed but ended with his death under circumstances now being investigated by security operatives.

Sources in the community said the incident occurred just hours before the dedication ceremony of his month-old child, scheduled to hold on Saturday. The timing has deepened grief among family members, friends, and residents of Ekpoma.

Jusewayne is survived by his wife of one year and their newborn. Friends described him as an enterprising young man whose food business, Principle Takeout, was well known in the Idumebo axis of Ekpoma.

The killing has sparked fresh concerns over rising insecurity in the university town. Residents say incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks have become increasingly frequent in recent months.

In January, youths in Ekpoma staged protests following a series of kidnappings and killings in the area. The demonstrations led to unrest within the community and calls for improved security presence.

Police authorities in Edo State have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend those behind the attack.
