Residents Commend Okpebholo as Charismatic Road Nears Completion

Residents of Charismatic Road, off Ekhenwan Road in Benin City, turned out in large numbers on Sunday evening to applaud Governor Monday Okpebholo during his inspection of ongoing projects across Edo South Senatorial District.
The governor’s visit was part of a routine assessment of critical infrastructure works in the district. Residents gathered along the road to express appreciation for the pace and quality of work being done.
The Charismatic Road project is now about 90 percent complete. The first section of the road has been laid with concrete, while the remaining stretch has been asphalted. The combination is expected to improve durability and ease of movement for motorists and pedestrians.
Drainage construction on the road has also been completed. Two water retention ponds were built on either side of the road to tackle flooding, which residents said had been a longstanding problem in the area.
Chief Joseph Amadasun, who relocated from Lagos four years ago, spoke with journalists at the site. He likened Governor Okpebholo’s approach to infrastructure delivery to that of former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande. “I moved from Lagos, and this area used to be a major flood trap. But now, after the recent rains, no water entered anyone’s home, and the road remained dry,” Amadasun said.
He added: “This is solid work. I can only compare Okpebholo to Baba Kekere (Chief Lateef Jakande). He is doing very well, and we appreciate his efforts.”
Another resident, Aliyu, said he has lived on Charismatic Road for seven years. He recalled that the road was always in terrible condition during the rainy season. “We thank God for what the governor has done. It’s completely different now,” he said.
Mrs. Enoch also commended the project, noting the change in conditions after rainfall. “Before, after it rained, you couldn’t even walk here. But now, there’s no water on the road, and some parts are even concrete, showing how strong it is. We are very grateful to the governor,” she stated.
Governor Okpebholo extended his inspection to Sapele Road to assess ongoing works there. He also made a brief stop at the Christ Embassy Camp Ground to review the quality of drainage construction at the site.
