Governor Okpebholo Fulfils ₦200 Million Pledge to POWA Market Fire Victims in Ekpoma

Ekpoma, Edo State — Governor Monday Okpebholo has fulfilled his promise to traders affected by the POWA Market fire in Ekpoma, disbursing ₦200 million in support to victims. The governor said he personally presented cheques to each of the affected shop owners during the disbursement exercise.
According to the governor, the market has now been fully rebuilt and every affected trader received ₦8 million to help restart their businesses. The intervention comes a few days after he first made the commitment to the traders, following the blaze that destroyed over 25 shops and disrupted livelihoods in the community.
Governor Okpebholo stated that he understands the pain and disruption the incident caused, adding that the intervention is aimed at restoring not just livelihoods, but hope and dignity. He described the gesture as a demonstration of what governance means to him: standing with the people and taking real action when it matters most.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continue supporting Edo families and putting smiles on their faces. He said the response aligns with his “SHINE agenda” and signals that a new Edo has risen, with government focused on practical solutions and direct impact.
Traders at the rebuilt POWA Market are expected to resume full operations following the disbursement. The state government says the move underscores its resolve to protect small businesses and respond swiftly to emergencies affecting citizens.
