Abuja, Nigeria - Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has announced his resignation from the party, effective immediately. In a statement released on March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso cited the need for strategic realignment in Nigeria's current political landscape as the reason for his decision.

Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the party's leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed and the National Working Committee, for their support during his tenure. He also thanked the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and party leaders at all levels for their dedication to the shared mission. "I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect," Kwankwaso stated.

The former governor emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly, but was necessary to identify with a political platform that offers the best opportunity to effect change in Nigeria. He assured that he will continue to work with party members and followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement towards a better and more prosperous future for the nation.
