Okpebholo Acquires 50 New Luxury Buses to Boost Edo Transport Sector

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has acquired 50 new luxury buses to strengthen public transportation in the state. The purchase comes months after the administration rolled out 100 new Hiace buses for the revived New Edo Line.

The governor’s latest move is being framed by his administration as another delivery on campaign promises, despite criticism from opposition figures. Officials say the buses are part of a broader plan to ease movement of people and goods across Edo State.

The administration has faced skepticism on several flagship projects. When construction began on the Ramat Park flyover, critics dismissed it as unachievable. The project is now underway, with work visibly progressing at the site.

Okpebholo’s government has pursued infrastructure upgrades across multiple sectors. Beyond transportation, interventions have been recorded on federal roads, education, security, and healthcare. The construction of over 100 schools and the recruitment of 6,000 teachers are among reforms previously cited by the administration.

Supporters of the governor describe the new buses as a direct response to transport challenges faced by residents. For critics, the projects have been labeled “sad news,” but state officials insist the developments are achievements worth celebrating by the people of Edo.

The 50 luxury buses are expected to be deployed soon to major routes within the state to complement the New Edo Line fleet and improve access to affordable transportation.
