How Okpebholo silenced opposition in Edo

…..”They ran out of steam, ideas”, Mayaki

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has completely silenced opposition parties in the state and left them struggling for relevance with visible achievements, it was learnt.

In a statement, Mr. John Mayaki, promoter of Edo: Nigeria’s Construction Site, said the governor’s developmental strides have effectively silenced critics and changed the political discourse.

According to him, the tangible progress recorded under Okpebholo’s leadership has weakened opposition narratives, predicting that the remnant opposition members will soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His words, “How do you defeat a governor who is clearly working for the people?” Mayaki asked. “I am yet to see who would vote against the interest of the governor. The realities on the ground have overtaken opposition narratives. Before now, they told stories. Today, they appear to have run out of ideas and may soon join us”, he said.

Continuing, Mayaki said the governor’s administration, just after one years in office, has intensified rural socio-economic development and strengthened educational infrastructure across the state.

He said the distribution of 54 construction equipment units to local councils, for instance, will create employment opportunities and boost grassroots development.

Critics, according to Mayaki, have shifted their arguments. “They no longer say the governor is not working. Instead, they argue that he is not generating enough power for the state, even people who bypass electricity meters are now complaining about supply,” he said, suggesting that such criticisms stem from a lack of substantial issues to challenge.

His words, “When the governor assumed office, they claimed he was not speaking big grammars, Queens English and being elitist. But he is unfazed and undaunted. More than a year and three months later, Governor Okpebholo remained focused and hardworking. His projects are designed to endure, unlike the cosmetic road projects undertaken by former Governor Godwin Obaseki.”
