Governor Okpebholo Says Ramat Park Flyover to Improve Access to High Court, INEC in Benin
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that the ongoing construction of the Ramat Park flyover in Benin City will restore full operations at the High Court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, both of which have been affected by persistent flooding in the area.
The governor gave the assurance while inspecting the progress of work at the project site, noting that the perennial flooding had disrupted critical institutions and businesses around Ramat Park.
Speaking with journalists during the inspection, Okpebholo said the completion of the flyover and its accompanying drainage infrastructure would permanently address the environmental challenges that forced the High Court and INEC to scale down activities.
He emphasised that his administration is determined to ensure the institutions return to full functionality once the project is completed.
According to him, “Flooding in this area has threatened businesses and key government institutions, including the High Court and INEC. With what we are doing here, we are confident that normal operations will be restored after completion.”
The governor disclosed that construction of the flyover bridge has reached about 90 percent completion, while drainage works stand at approximately 70 percent. He expressed optimism that the entire project would be delivered before the peak of the rainy season to prevent further disruption.
Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, stressing that the project is critical to easing traffic congestion and safeguarding economic activities in the area.
Also speaking, the site engineer for the project, Femi Fatola, confirmed that work is progressing steadily and on schedule. He noted that the bridge construction has surpassed 90 percent completion, while significant progress has been made on flood control measures.
Fatola assured that the flooding challenges that have long plagued the area would soon be resolved, stating that drainage works are about 70 percent completed and nearing the final stage.
“The level of work done so far shows that we are on track to meet the stipulated timeline. Once completed, the issue of flooding in this environment will largely be a thing of the past,” he said.
During the inspection tour, the governor also visited other ongoing infrastructure projects, including the flyover bridge at Sapele Road and road construction works at Charismatic Road and Upper Ekenwan Road, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to improve road networks and urban infrastructure across Benin City.
