Trending video circulating on social media has sparked outrage in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, after it allegedly captured Mr. Kelvin Iyere popularly nicknamed “Mr. I Will Quench You” in a heated altercation with a group of women.
Eyewitnesses further alleged that Mr. Iyere, who currently serves as a councillor in Esan Central, led suspected thugs to attack Mr. Aron Abibhode, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Ward 8 and a chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming local government elections. Reports claim that Iyere has been using his political influence to settle personal scores, targeting fellow APC leaders, supporters, and even members of opposition parties.
This is not the first time the embattled councillor has been accused of violent conduct. In 2022, while serving as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Godwin Obaseki, he was alleged to have assaulted his wife and mother-in-law. More recently, Iyere was recalled from suspension following allegations of misconduct before decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Critics argue that Iyere has imported what they describe as “Obaseki’s style of politics fight them all and quench them by force” into the APC. His political rivalry with Mr. Abibhode has heightened tensions in Esan Central, with supporters warning of possible escalations.
Concerned stakeholders have called on security agencies, civil society organisations, the international community, and regional bodies such as ECOWAS to closely monitor developments. They insist that if any harm comes to Mr. Abibhode or
Mr. Abibhode, leader of APC Ward 8, is also vying for the Esan Central chairmanship seat the same position Mr. Iyere is allegedly seeking. Local residents fear that the rivalry could further fuel political violence in the area as the elections draw closer.
A former petition will be submitted to all embassies involved, They should take a close watch at mr iyere as he is allegedly know for domestic violence, inhumane treatment to others and power intocicate by all standards
