FIFA decided to try something new this year

Until 2025, the FIFA Club World Cup was an eight-team tournament held every year sometime between December and January.

FIFA have now turned everything around, with the Club World Cup now a 32-team tournament to be contested once every four years.

FIFA pumped over $2 billion into the tournament and claimed they made up to $4 billion by the time the 2025 edition was over, with Chelsea emerging Champions.

The big announcement from the football governing body, confirmed today, is that all previous editions of the Club World Cup will now be identified as the Intercontinental Cup.

Hence, winners of previous Club World Cup titles will no longer address themselves as former World Champions but as FIFA Intercontinental Cup winners, except Chelsea.
