Oyo State to Distribute Appointment Letters to 5,600 New Teachers

Ibadan, Oyo State –The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) announced today that 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers will receive their appointment letters beginning Monday, January 6th, 2025. The distribution will take place at the UBEC offices in each local government area across the state.

SUBEB Chairman, Nureni Adeniran, made the announcement following a meeting with Education Secretaries in Ibadan. He emphasized the importance of innovation and the adoption of modern teaching techniques for the new recruits, whose appointments are effective January 1st, 2025.

Adeniran highlighted the board's zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice. He also acknowledged an uneven distribution of teachers across local governments, with some areas overstaffed while others remain understaffed. A redistribution plan is underway to address this disparity and ensure equitable access to quality education.

“We expect these young teachers to be creative, adaptive, and progressive,” Adeniran stated. “They are crucial to our vision of revolutionizing basic education in Oyo State.”

This recruitment drive, he explained, directly addresses the teacher shortage in many rural areas, caused by retirements and other factors. This batch of 5,600 represents the first of a planned 7,000 new teachers. Teachers with disabilities and those appointed as carers are instructed to collect their letters from SUBEB headquarters in Agodi.

The announcement also revealed a significant investment in basic education infrastructure. The Oyo State government has reportedly committed N2.5 billion as a counterpart fund for UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in 2022 and 2023.

Adeniran commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to education, noting that the recruitment and infrastructure investments place Oyo State at the forefront of educational advancements. He urged the new teachers to uphold the highest professional ethics and standards. De Parrot Media congratulates the newly appointed teachers and wishes them success in their careers.
