BREAKING NEWS: Governor Sule Dissolves State Executive Council
January 3, 2025 - Lafia, Nasarawa State – In a significant shake-up of the Nasarawa State government, Governor Abdullahi Sule has announced the dissolution of his entire executive council, which includes all commissioners, alongside the dismissal of Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma.
The unexpected decision was revealed during an emergency meeting held at the Government House in Lafia on Friday, immediately following the departure of Vice President Kashim Shetima, who had visited the state for a one-day working visit that included the inauguration of development projects.
Sources close to the government, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, indicated that the exact motivations behind the governor's sweeping changes remain unclear. However, it is well-known that Governor Sule has a history of restructuring the state's administration, previously dissolving the executive council in 2021 to enhance governance effectiveness.

In an official statement issued by Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, the permanent secretary for cabinet affairs and special services, Governor Sule expressed gratitude towards the outgoing council members for their dedication to the state's development and extended best wishes for their future pursuits.
The statement further detailed logistical arrangements, instructing all outgoing council members to transfer the management of their ministries and any government properties in their possession to the respective permanent secretaries. The SSG is likewise instructed to hand over duties to the permanent secretary in cabinet affairs and special services.
This latest move comes on the heels of the governor's submission in July 2023 of names for 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, suggesting that a reorganization of the executive branch may be on the horizon.
