APC Wins Kano State Bye-Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Ungogo and Kano Municipal State Assembly bye-elections held on Saturday in Kano State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidates winners in both constituencies. ¹ ² ³

In Kano Municipal Constituency, Aliyu Nabil Daneji, son of the late Sarki Aliyu Daneji, secured 7,484 votes to win the seat. His closest rival, Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), polled 105 votes. ⁴

Similarly, in Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, son of the late Aminu Sa’ad, garnered 8,975 votes to clinch the seat. His closest challenger, Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), received 54 votes. ⁵

The seats became vacant following the sudden deaths of the lawmakers representing Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad, and Kano Municipal Constituency, Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who passed away on the same day.

The elections were conducted by INEC amid reports of low voter turnout. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Ambassador Abdu Zango, attributed the low turnout to the timing of the polls and limited participation by political parties.

Major opposition parties, including the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), were not on the ballot for the elections. ⁶

The newly elected lawmakers are expected to be sworn in by the leadership of the Kano State House of Assembly, allowing legislative activities in their constituencies to resume fully.
