The Edo State Government has said the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern Jattu Market is a strategic investment designed to strengthen the state’s economy, create employment opportunities and improve the business environment for traders. The Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Governor, Hon. Haruna Braimoh, said the project reflects Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to delivering people-oriented infrastructure that promotes sustainable economic development.

In a statement, Braimoh noted that the reconstruction of the historic Jattu Market into a modern commercial hub demonstrates the governor’s determination to provide an enabling environment for trade, commerce and investment. He explained that the market, which has served as a major trading centre for generations, is being redeveloped into a world-class facility expected to attract investors and stimulate commercial activities across Edo State.

According to him, the administration’s emphasis on quality construction, durability and international standards underscores its resolve to build infrastructure capable of serving future generations. He added that the extensive structural work and modern facilities incorporated into the project are intended to improve business operations and enhance the overall welfare of traders.

Braimoh stated that Governor Okpebholo’s development agenda recognises the critical role of modern markets in driving economic growth through the promotion of small and medium-scale enterprises, increased internally generated revenue and the expansion of local economies. He said the administration remains focused on implementing projects that will improve the ease of doing business across the state.

The Special Adviser further disclosed that the Jattu Market project forms part of a broader plan to modernise major markets across Edo State, including Oba Market and the Ekpoma Modern Market. He described the coordinated infrastructure programme as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusive development and balanced regional economic growth.

He also noted that the project has attracted commendation from notable leaders, including the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, and former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole. According to him, their endorsements highlight the significance of the project and reinforce confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to restoring critical infrastructure and preserving Edo State’s commercial heritage.

Braimoh expressed confidence that the administration’s strategic investments would enhance the welfare of traders, stimulate economic activities and position Edo State among Nigeria’s leading destinations for commerce and investment. He commended Governor Okpebholo for what he described as bold and visionary leadership, saying the administration remains committed to expanding opportunities, improving livelihoods and building a prosperous future for all Edo people.
