Edo Police Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims in Iyahmo Forest, Launch Manhunt for Suspects
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued eleven persons abducted from their farms in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo, and are pursuing the fleeing kidnappers into the surrounding forest. The Command confirmed the operation on Friday, June 27, 2026.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikhoedem, anipr, the incident was reported at about 8:20pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2026. A distress call alleged that eleven farmers were seized while working in Ogbido Community.
In response, operatives of Iyahmo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, mobilized immediately. They were joined by local vigilantes and hunters for a coordinated rescue operation within the forest area where the victims were believed to be held.
The joint team encountered the abductors during the operation, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. Police said the kidnappers were overpowered by the operatives’ superior firepower and tactical response.
Faced with intense pressure, the suspects abandoned their captives and fled into the bush. All eleven victims were recovered unhurt and without ransom paid, the Command stated.
The rescued persons include nine males and two females: Braimah Destiny, 46; Aruna Idris, 38; Abudu Sharafadeem, 38; Godwin Elizabeth, 28; James Favour, 28; Nonso Ana, 30; Abdulilia Ozigi, 26; Lambo James, 27; Wasia Abdul, 48; Lucky Emmanuel, 24; and Suleman Aliyu, 25.
After the rescue, the victims were taken to a hospital for medical examination. The Command said they have since been reunited with their families, while efforts to track and arrest the fleeing suspects are “on top gear.”
Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, commended the gallantry of the police operatives, vigilantes, and hunters. He said the Command has intensified operations across Iyahmo and environs and remains committed to protecting residents.
