Delta State Police Command Recovers Large Cache of Firearms, Arrests Over 600 Suspects in 2025



The Delta State Police Command has revealed that it recovered a total of 144 sophisticated firearms between January and December 2025. The recovered weapons included 27 AK-47 rifles, 36 pump action guns, 25 Beretta pistols, and 56 locally made cut-to-size guns. Additionally, the police seized a total of 6,930 rounds of ammunition during various operations across the state.

In the course of their intensified crackdown on criminal activities, the Delta State Police also arrested a total of 627 suspects on various criminal charges. These included 140 suspected armed robbers, 113 suspected kidnappers, 125 murder suspects, 187 suspected cultists, and 62 individuals accused of rape and defilement. The arrests formed part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security within the state.

The Police Command also reported recovering a large sum of ransom money amounting to thirty-six million naira (#36,000,000). The recovered funds were believed to be linked to kidnapping cases and other ransom-related crimes, underscoring the persistent menace of kidnapping in the state and the effectiveness of police operations in tackling the threat.

Officers involved in the recovery operations and arrests commended the collaboration between the police and local communities, which has significantly contributed to gathering intelligence and ensuring swift action against criminals. The Police Command pledged continued commitment to eradicating violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Delta State.

Authorities have assured that the recovered firearms and ammunition would be subjected to forensic examinations to help link them to pending investigations and ongoing cases. Meanwhile, the suspects are being processed through the judicial system as the police continue their clampdown on criminal elements.

The police command appeals to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. With the steady progress in crime control witnessed in 2025, there is optimism that Delta State will become safer and more secure in the coming years.
