BEDC Electricity Plc wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public of the reasons behind the extended power outages currently being experienced across parts of our network.
The primary cause of the prolonged outages is a significant reduction in national power generation. This situation has been triggered largely by gas supply constraints, which have affected the operations of several Generation Companies (GENCOs). As a result, the national grid has experienced a drop in system frequency, necessitating corrective measures to stabilize the grid.
In line with these stabilization efforts, electricity distribution companies nationwide, including BEDC, have been allocated energy levels far below their nominated capacities. Consequently, BEDC’s ability to supply power across its franchise areas has been constrained.
BEDC emphasizes that the current decline in power supply is beyond the company’s direct control. However, we remain committed to proactively communicating with our customers and maintaining transparency throughout this period.
Speaking on the situation, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen stated:
“Our current allocation from the national grid has fallen far below our nominated levels due to the prevailing generation challenges. Customers, particularly those at the extreme ends of our network, are the most affected. We sincerely appeal for patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge.”
BEDC assures customers that normal power supply will be gradually restored as national generation improves. We remain steadfast in our commitment to keeping customers informed and to delivering improved and reliable service as conditions stabilize.
We thank our customers for their patience and continued cooperation.
