EDO STATE FORESTRY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN TASKS STAKEHOLDERS ON PRESERVATION OF OKOMU FOREST RESERVE

The Chairman of the Edo State Forestry Commission, Hon. Valentine Asuen, has reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to finding lasting solutions to deforestation and illegal logging in All the 49 Forest Reserve across the state . This commitment was made during a meeting with stakeholders, including the management of Okomu Oil Palm, Conservator of Okomu National Park, leadership of Edo Saw Millers Association and representatives of host communities.

The meeting was convened to address concerns raised by the Okomu Oil Palm company regarding illegal logging and encroachment on their property. Managing Director of Okomu Oil Palm, Mr. Graham Heifer, lamented the rate of encroachment and appealed to the commission to find lasting solutions.

Hon. Asuen assured stakeholders that the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is fully committed to reforestation and stopping illegal logging in the state. He warned that the commission has zero tolerance for encroachment on forest reserves and that anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.

To address the issues raised by the stakeholders, the Edo Forestry Boss Consequently set up a committee to investigate the matter.He also solicited the support of host communities in the fight against deforestation and illegal logging.

This move is part of the state government's efforts to protect and restore its forest ecosystem. The Edo State Forestry Commission has the mandate to facilitate the proper utilization, preservation, and protection of forest and wildlife life resources in the State.
