WHEN INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE MEETS EMPATHETIC LEADERSHIP: THE GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO EXAMPLE

The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Public Affairs and Media, Hon. Haruna Braimoh, has warmly commended His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for making history with the appointment of the first visually impaired Permanent Secretary in Edo State. This landmark decision is a powerful demonstration of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, equal opportunity, and people-centred leadership.

According to Hon. Braimoh, Governor Okpebholo has once again shown that true leadership is measured not by words but by deliberate actions that promote justice, fairness, and human dignity. By entrusting such a strategic position to a qualified visually impaired individual, the Governor has reaffirmed that competence, integrity, and capacity—not physical limitations—remain the defining criteria for service in his administration.

He noted that the appointment is a significant milestone in Edo State’s democratic journey and sends a strong message of hope to persons living with disabilities across the state and Nigeria. It reflects an administration that recognizes the enormous potential of every citizen and is determined to build a society where no one is excluded from contributing meaningfully to governance and development.

Hon. Braimoh further stated that Governor Okpebholo’s decision aligns perfectly with the administration’s SHINE Agenda, which places people at the centre of governance through policies that promote inclusion, equity, empowerment, and sustainable development. He described the Governor as a compassionate leader whose empathy continues to inspire transformative governance and restore confidence in public institutions.

He emphasized that this historic appointment will serve as an enduring legacy, encouraging future generations to believe that disability is never a barrier to excellence or public service. The Governor’s action has not only broken a long-standing barrier but has also set a new standard for leadership that values diversity, promotes equal opportunity, and celebrates merit above all else.

Hon. Haruna Braimoh therefore congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretary and applauded Governor Monday Okpebholo for once again demonstrating visionary, practical, and inclusive leadership. He urged Edo people to continue supporting the administration as it advances its mission of building a more prosperous, united, and inclusive state where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive. Indeed, under Governor Monday Okpebholo, A New Edo Has Risen.

Signed:

Hon. Haruna Braimoh

Special Adviser on Public Affairs and Media to the Edo State Governor
