Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, the leading aspirant for the House of Representatives, Etsako Federal Constituency, has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector as a cornerstone of economic growth and food security across the constituency.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists, Dr. Agbomhere emphasized that agriculture remains one of the greatest untapped opportunities within Etsako Federal Constituency, which comprises Etsako West, Etsako East, and Etsako Central Local Government Areas. He noted that the region is naturally endowed with vast arable land, favorable climatic conditions, and a hardworking population with deep-rooted farming traditions.
According to him, Etsako Federal Constituency possesses significant agricultural advantages, including fertile soil suitable for the cultivation of cash and food crops such as cassava, yam, maize, rice, and a variety of vegetables. He added that the area also holds strong potential for livestock farming, agro-processing, and agribusiness development, which, if properly harnessed, can transform the local economy and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths and women.
Dr. Agbomhere expressed concern that despite these abundant resources, the sector has remained largely underdeveloped due to inadequate investment, poor infrastructure, limited access to modern farming techniques, and lack of structured market systems. He stressed that this gap presents a major opportunity for intervention and growth.
“If given the mandate, I will prioritize policies and programs that will modernize agriculture in Etsako. We will focus on empowering farmers with access to improved seedlings, fertilizers, mechanized equipment, and training on modern farming practices,” he stated.
He further highlighted plans to facilitate access to funding and credit facilities for local farmers, promote agro-processing industries to reduce post-harvest losses, and create value chains that will boost productivity and profitability. He also underscored the importance of establishing strong market linkages to ensure that farmers can easily sell their produce at competitive prices.
Dr. Agbomhere reiterated that investing in agriculture is not only about food production but also about economic empowerment, poverty reduction, and rural development. He maintained that with the right support and strategic leadership, Etsako Federal Constituency can become a major agricultural hub in Edo State and beyond.
He concluded by calling on stakeholders, youths, and community leaders to embrace agriculture as a viable pathway to prosperity, assuring them of his unwavering dedication to delivering practical solutions that will unlock the full agricultural potential of the constituency.
