Reflecting on Gov. Okpebholo's award as New Telegraph Governor of the Year (Education).

Sen. Monday Okpebholo, as Governor of Edo State, has continue to set high standards just over a year after assuming office, excelling above unimpressive records of the previous administration. One glaring aspect especially has been in the area of Education.

The opposition, which has been known to often say all sorts against this Governor while trying to undermine his tremendous performance in divers facet of governance in the state, where his administration is thriving strong, have found it impossible to fault his transformational strides in this regards.

Before Sen. Monday Okpebholo took over power on November 12th, 2024, education in Edo State, was in critical flat lines, by almost all indicies that could be used as yardstick to judge growth of the education sector in the state.

Tertiary institutions belonging to the state which were supposed to help mould the future of the next generation had no future, as they drowned in debts, backlog of unpaid workers salaries, brute consultants who mortaged institutions growth for personal enrichment and so on.

Public primary and secondary schools in the state were starved of critical infrastructures with buildings falling apart from left to right and children having no option but to be tutored in what can best be described as den of rodents and reptiles, as open roofs, broken desks, messed up floors, were the average description of most public classrooms while the then state government, got big sponsors like world bank to fund a fictional and counterfeit Edo Best Scheme.

Sen. Monday Okpebholo came into Edo without noise, excuses or bogus MOU's and within a little more than a year, the narrative is different, after massive intervention to revive educational standards in Edo State.

The New Telegraph awards conferred on the Edo State Governor, can be described as well deserved and an acknowledgment of the tireless efforts of Mr. Governor and Hon. Commissioner For Education Dr. Paddy, to reposition education in Edo State for the better.

As accolades pour on Mr. Governor from different directions, Edo people are no doubt greatful for having him as Governor, who came with a mindset to work for his people through fulfilment of his campaign manifesto and promise, which has made Sen. Monday Okpebholo an uncommon achiever not just in Education alone in the state, but in many various sector where his blueprints cut across.
