Edo State Governor Orders Crackdown on Indiscriminate Parking, Traffic Congestion
Benin City, Edo State – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) to take immediate action to address the issue of indiscriminate parking and resulting traffic gridlock across the state. The governor issued this directive during the decoration ceremony of Engr. Stainless Ijeghede as the new Managing Director of EDSTMA.
Addressing EDSTMA personnel at Government House, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the agency's responsibility to ensure the free flow of traffic. He specifically criticized the haphazard parking of vehicles and buses, particularly in market areas, which he described as contributing to an unkempt and congested city.
"Edo State belongs to all of us," the governor said. "EDSTMA must ensure that the city is well-kept. Vehicles are parked indiscriminately, causing obstructions and serious gridlock. This is unacceptable. Monitor the markets closely; these areas are particularly problematic."
Governor Okpebholo questioned the agency's effectiveness and urged them to improve their performance to alleviate the suffering of Edo State residents caused by traffic congestion. He stressed the importance of ensuring smooth traffic flow for the benefit of the citizens.
Engr. Ijeghede, the newly appointed EDSTMA Managing Director, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged the agency's commitment to fulfilling its mandate professionally and ensuring free traffic flow across the state.
