Edo PRST Sacks Official for Reckless Behavior in Viral Video

Benin City, Edo State – January 9 2025 – The Edo State Public Response Safety Team (PRST) has swiftly dismissed an official captured in a viral video engaging in dangerous conduct with a bus driver. The 27-second video, which circulated widely on social media Thursday, showed the unnamed official attempting to stop a vehicle by forcefully grabbing the steering wheel, creating a hazardous situation for the driver and passengers.

In the video, passengers are heard pleading with both the driver and the PRST official to cease their actions, citing concerns for their safety. The official, however, insisted the driver was attempting to evade him.

Reacting to the incident, PRST Coordinator Kelly Okungbowa issued a public apology and announced the immediate dismissal of the erring officer. "There is no perfect society," Okungbowa stated, emphasizing that the dismissal served as a deterrent to other PRST personnel.

Okungbowa stressed that the PRST is not adversarial to drivers but aims to maintain order and ensure compliance with traffic regulations in Benin City. He appealed to the public to report any misconduct by PRST officers. "I can't be everywhere at once, but I assure you that anyone found wanting will be dealt with," he said.

While condemning the official's actions, Okungbowa also criticized the driver for taking the dismissed official away from his designated area to an unknown location. He described the driver's actions as "self-help" and "wrong," emphasizing that neither party acted appropriately. The PRST's decisive action underscores its commitment to accountability and responsible conduct within its ranks.
