Edo Governor Pledges 100% Support for Tinubu in 2027 Presidential Election
BENIN CITY, Edo State – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, guaranteeing 100% of the state's votes. The Governor made this declaration during a food distribution event organized by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
The RHI, a social investment program spearheaded by Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is distributing food items to vulnerable households across the nation. Edo State is among seven states (including Kano, Benue, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Cross River, and Gombe) that have already benefited from this initiative, which began in March 2024. Kwara, Kogi, and Abia states are next in line to receive aid.
Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the RHI’s efforts, highlighting the positive impact on vulnerable Edo residents. He attributed the program’s success to the combined efforts of President and First Lady Tinubu, and reaffirmed the state's commitment to the President's administration, promising even more than 100% support in the upcoming election should President Tinubu seek re-election.
Representing the First Lady at the event was the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima. She emphasized the RHI's broader goals of supporting women and youth, and urged recipients to utilize the food items responsibly for the benefit of their families. The distributed food items included noodles, semovita, and pasta.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Edo State Secretary to the Government, Musa Ikhilor; Deputy Chief of Staff Pius Alile; Wife of former Deputy Governor Mrs. Anna Shaibu; market women leaders; commissioners; political women leaders; heads of security agencies; permanent secretaries; and numerous widows. Mrs. Edesili Anani Okpebholo, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Edo State, thanked the First Lady for the program and praised Governor Okpebholo’s support for the initiative.
